Hey innovators,
Creativity is a word that doesn’t generate an ‘easy mental image.’
It’s a complex concept that is probably seen differently by every person you know.
Some will say: “you’re just born with it!”
Others: “I’ll just never be as creative as ‘INSERT CREATIVE PERSON HERE’.”
And finally: “You can’t really create anything new… can you?”
All of these points of view are valid…
…but here at The Daily Magician, we tend towards a much simpler definition of creativity.
One that we learnt from the copywriting king who is: Eugene Schwartz.
If you’ve never heard of Eugene Schwartz he is, simply put, one of the best copywriters in history.
Truly, his sales record speaks for itself.
Here’s just one of his accomplishments: He wrote a television advert that sold one in every 14th American TV owner.
And here’s another: He made $50 million dollars from a textbook on natural health.
So in summary:
This guy knew how to sell…
…which means he knew a thing or two about how humans think.
Here’s his view on creativity (paraphrasing):
“Creativity is simply putting two things together that haven’t been before.”
Simple huh?
The applications in magic are practically ENDLESS.
And I’m sure your mind can instantly figure out how this all applies.
Think of two moves… Or two effects— and put them together.
See what you come up with.
How about three moves?
Five?
Ten?
How about the finale of one performance, combined with a completely different method?
(David Regal JUST told us this is exactly what he does to create new tricks/routines.)
So anyhow, at risk of rambling on too long… There’s your thinking differently thought of the week!
As always please reply to this email if you have any ideas of how to apply this!
Your friends,
Jacob and Benji.
