Here’s the story:
Andi Gladwin had just agreed to come on our podcast, Of Sleights and Men, to discuss his latest book.
We prepped hard for the interview.
(we were pretty nervous.)
However, the instant Andi jumped on the call, we realised something…
We had been thinking of Andi as a big-shot CEO of potentially the world’s biggest magic company.
And while that’s partly true, we missed something potentially more important…
…that he’s also a HUGE magic fan!
(and super humble guy)
As a result, we had a great conversation with him about magic.
PLUS—we built a business relationship with Vanishing Inc. that we still hold dear today.
So here’s the lesson:
No matter who you’re speaking to—they’re more than just their ‘title’.
They have hobbies, interests, and favorite TV shows.
If you can connect with someone on the human level, whoever they are, you’ve made a friend for life.
But it’s not just us who’ve been surprised by podcast guests…
When we recently interviewed Jonah Babins (host of Discourse in Magic) we asked him a question after the main podcast:
Which magicians most SURPRISED him when he talked to them on his show?
(keep in mind that Jonah has interviewed nearly every magician you could name…)
His answer?
Jonah named three magicians…
(names that you’ll recognise)
… and then went on to share some incredible advice on connecting with people and making them feel comfortable—especially during a podcast.
This entire conversation was recorded as a ‘bonus’ segment after the main interview, which you can listen to here:
