In this short interview, Nicholas Lawrence also discusses…
- A definitive answer to the gimmicks vs sleight of hand debate.
- His tips on creation and the reason why you must ALWAYS have an open mind (so many magicians fail because they don’t know what that really means…)
- How to get inside of the head of a ‘layman’ and how this cheat code can help you create infinite original magic.
- The mindset all magicians should have when performing (and why you’ll ‘never leave home without it’ again.)
I like the idea of beginning with the end and working your way backwards to get there. That can lead you to a stellar ending, then you can add in the plot twists… it makes it almost like a geometry proof–using the tools that you have at hand to get, stepwise, from beginning to the end in the most fooling way possible.
Not being a creator, I wonder as well, if a lot of creativity is looking at an existing trick and wondering if you could somehow make it even better. Asi Wind’s crazy twist on Bannon’s Triumph is a good example….
